View the B’Twin Rockrider 27.5″ ST 530 Alloy Hardtail Mountain Bike

The Rockrider ST 530 costs a little extra than the cheapest of Decathlon's mountain bike range, and offers some functional upgrades as a result.

The 530 more resembles a trail mountain bike, with extended travel on it's 100mm suspension fork, together with relaxed geometry and a set of fully hydraulic disc brakes.

In order to increase control, the 720mm handlebars are wider than that of the ST 100 & ST 120, and overall the ST 530's weight has been shaved down by over 2 pounds compared to it's siblings.

B'Twin have also released a ladies version of the ST 530, as well as the slightly cheaper ST 530 MDB with mechanical disc brakes, and the incredible value Rockrider ST 530 S; a full suspension mountain bike for under £500!

Read on to find out more about the ST 530, and whether it offers decent value.

The Rockrider ST 530 - Budget Hardtail with a competitive spec

As you progress upwards through the Rockrider ST range, the bikes become more suitable for harder off-road riding. This is the case when comparing the ST 530 to the ST 100 and ST 120 models; the 530 weighs over a kilogram less, has wider bars, hydraulic brakes, more relaxed geometry and longer travel front suspension.

All these factors lend themselves to a hardtail bike that will be faster, easier and more fun to ride.

Please note that this version of the ST 530 is designed for men; I also have a page for the ladies ST 530, which has female orientated geometry.

The hardtail frame is light for the price, with the medium weighing in a competitive 2.1kg, and constructed from 6061 aluminium. The seatstays join the seat tube at a slightly lower point than the crossbar, giving a more forgiving ride without sacrificing strength.

The 100mm fork is adjustable based upon your weight via the Rockrider's "U-Fit technology"; this ensures you gain the most performance and usable travel from the front end without bottoming out.

As with most lower end bikes, then drivetrain is primarily made up of Microshift 9 speed components rather than SRAM or Shimano, with the exception of a KMC chain. A single chainring (1x9 drivetrain) is provided with a 32 tooth ring up front and 11-42 range rear Microshift 9 speed cassette. This both simplifies gear changes, as well as saves weight when compared to bikes utilising a double or triple chainring setup.

Tektro provide the disc brakes with a full 160mm double hydraulic system; this is a substantial upgrade from the mechanical brakes featuring on the cheaper Rockrider bikes from the ST range.

The components are largely own brand, with a perfectly functional alloy 720mm bar and stem, but sadly a steel seatpost. Upgrading this to alloy will save weight without losing strength.

Another potential upgrade would be the tyres, which are only 2.0" wide; spending a few pounds on a new lighter and wider set of tyres may give you more confidence on the technical terrain.

All in all, the Rockrider ST 530 Mountain Bike offers a very competitive specification considering it is a lower end bike. Sure, it may weigh around 30lbs, but you've got a lightweight frame, hydraulic disc brakes and a 100mm adjustable fork for a relatively small outlay.

B'Twin Rockrider ST 530 Mountain Bike

This 27.5" MTB is designed for mountain bike rides lasting 2 to 3 hours, any time of year.

With your ST 530 you can accelerate and brake very quickly to adapt to changes in the terrain! The single chainring and hydraulic disc brakes will boost your mountain bike touring rides.

Cycling comfort: Enjoy the raised position, adjustable stem, 100 mm suspension and hammock saddle.

Ease of use: Change gears effortlessly: 9-speed single chainring drivetrain.

Directional control: Control your trajectory: hydraulic disc brakes, wide tyres and handlebar.

Efficiency: Smooth riding: lightweight aluminium frame, single chainring, 27.5" wheels. For less weight and more efficient pedalling, the Rockrider ST 530 frame is made from 6061 aluminium (only 2.1 kg in size M).

Our designers created this bike to be comfortable and easy to manoeuvre. Its slope was carefully designed to keep your back straighter. The lower bottom bracket helps keep you more stable during turns.

100 MM FRONT SUSPENSION: With a 100 mm front suspension, it will be easier to ride over small obstacles (roots, pebbles, stones, mud). Easily adjust the hardness using U-Fit technology (weight adjuster). Simply set the number to your weight using the dial on the fork.

REAR SUSPENSION: NONE: This mountain bike has no rear suspension. This is a "semi-rigid" mountain bike.

Compared to a full suspension mountain bike (with rear suspension), it has the following advantages: the bike is lighter; you can pedal faster on flatter ground.

If however your primary concern is comfort and steering, the ST 530 is available in a full suspension version with suspension at the rear.

DERAILLEUR & DRIVETRAIN: A SINGLE CHAINRING, JUST LIKE THE PROS!: Enjoy the ease and efficiency of a single chainring. 1 chainring and 9 speeds.

Accelerate on the flats and easily tackle the climbs. With a single lever on the handlebar, you can change gears effortlessly! ROCKRIDER FC ATB 500 32-tooth single chainring. MICROSHIFT ADVENT rear derailleur with long cage.

MICROSHIFT ADVENT right shifter. MICROSHIFT H092 9-speed cassette (11-42 teeth).

KMC Z9 wide, sturdy chain HANDLEBAR, STEM, GRIPS: The adjustable stem on the ST 530 allows you to position the levers so they're easy to grip.

The all-aluminium ROCKRIDER stem is 70 mm (size S), 80 mm (size M/L), or 90 mm (size XL) and can be raised in 5 adjustment intervals: + 0 mm, + 7.5 mm, + 15 mm, + 22.5 mm, + 30 mm. In detail:. 720 mm oversize ROCKRIDER SPORT aluminium handlebar.

ROCKRIDER SPORT "soft touch" ergonomic grips for good grip and a comfortable feel SADDLE: The ST 530 saddle is welded to prevent any saddle movement as you cycle. Because your comfort is our top priority after your safety, we've added an exclusive Rockrider Ergofit Evo saddle that is wider and hammock shaped. Easily adjust the height of your saddle with the 400 mm Flex steel seat post.

Its reduced diameter (27.2 mm) provides your seat with natural flexibility, 30% more than a standard solution.

HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES: No matter what conditions you ride in (dry/wet), the Rockrider by Tektro 160 mm double hydraulic disc brakes will come through for you, even in the mud. Hydraulic brakes deliver more powerful and progressive braking and require less effort applied to the brake levers.

The aluminium brake levers are light, easy to grip, and precise.

27.5" WHEELS WITH DOUBLE-WALLED RIMS AND ALL-CONDITION TYRES : The aluminium wheels are effective and sturdy: 27.5" diameter and double-walled rims. Their diameter is the perfect balance of comfort and performance.

With 28 spokes, they are lightweight, stiff, and durable. The wide, exclusive ROCKRIDER ALL CONDITIONS (30 TPI) 27.5" x 2.0 tyres have side knobs designed for riding on all types of terrain (dry, wet, etc.).

Tubeless Ready 23 mm rims: you will need rim tape, Schrader valves, and puncture sealant.

PLATFORM PEDALS: The ST 530 comes with Rockrider Flat platform pedals with a wider surface and more pronounced dots to better keep your foot on pedal.

TRANSPORT AND STORE YOUR MOUNTAIN BIKE EASILY: We added a quick release system for easily removing/reattaching the front wheel.

Tip: a bike rack is an easy way to transport your mountain bike without dirtying your car.

B'Twin Bikes

B'Twin Bikes

B'Twin are a popular choice of bike in the UK, partly due to their widespread distribution by Decathlon, and partly due to the value they offer. Their bikes are divided into several slightly overlapping ranges, with Triban best known for road and gravel bikes, and Rockrider gaining a reputation for high performing MTBs to suit every budget. Elops largely consist of a range of city bikes, whereas Riverside focus on hybrids. All in all, B'Twin bikes are well worth checking out given the size of their ranges; there's a model to suit most budgets.
