Shimano Ultegra 6870 Di2 11sp Groupset
Shimano Ultegra 6870 Di2 Groupset SHIMANO's Ultegra Di2 6870 groupset provides the highest quality outside professional racing.
SHIMANO's Ultegra Di2 series with electronic shifting is "pro-proven" as it is a direct trickle down from the Dura Ace group. It stands for state-of-the-art technology, proven in pro races, the technologies used in the new Ultegra 6870 series 11 speed included newly designed brakes and new chain treatment. The electronic shifting lets you concentrate on your performance.
The DNA for both the mechanical and electronic version of the group is the same. They share the same 4-arm cranks, 11-speed cassettes, dual pivot brakes, Sil-tec chain and 11-speed wheels. What makes them different is the shifting interface (shift lever and derailleur's).
Where Ultegra 6800 uses the well known mechanical parts and cables, Ultegra 6870 (Di2) uses an electronic shifting system.
E-tube: The Ultegra 6870 products are build based on the E-tube platform and can be adjusted with the dedicated E-tube (project) software. E-tube is SHIMANO's electronic shifting program where shifting functions can be customised.
For example all the shift buttons can be individually programmed. Besides customisation, E-tube offers the possibility to upgrade components with firmware upgrades after its purchase. Due to E-tube compatibility other shifting functions are available to Ultegra 6870 like Dura-Ace sprint and Roubaix shifters.
In contrast to mechanical shifting, E-tube allows a rider to install multiple shifting options on a single bike Ultegra FC-6800 Crankset: With a unique four-arm spider and Hollowtech II construction putting strength just where it's needed, the FC-6800 chainset sets new standards for stiffness and low weight.
Ultegra FC-6800 Crankser, 50.34 or 53.39t Crank Arm Length: 172.5mm New 4-arm design for same stiffness with lighter weight Hollowtech II construction Hollowglide chainrings 11-speed compatible Same bolt circle diameter for compact and traditional double chainsets means that one crankarm fits all chainring sizes Bolt circle diameter: 110mm Chain line: 43.5mm Includes Hollowtech II Bottom Bracket SM-BBR60 BSA Weight: 775g (with BB) Di2 STI Dual Control Set ST-6870: Dual Control Levers with new ergonomic design for long rides and fast accurate electronic shifting. Compared to the previous Ultegra Di2 (6770) Shimano have improved the ergonomics of the dual control lever for easier access.
Especially on top of the - slimmer - hoods riders have more control than ever.
Also the shape of the shift button is improved and the contrast of the surface is more recognisable Programmable multi-shift function Extremely fast and precise shifting Clean cabling thanks to E-Tube Connection Low maintenance with long-lasting performance Cable connection: EW-SD50 Carbon brake lever Weight: 295g (Set) Ultegra Di2 Rear Derailleur RD-6870 SS: The derailleur's are more compact and lighter than their predecessors. The rear derailleur is updated with an automatic protection system that moves the cage out of harm's way in case of a crash.
There are two versions of the rear derailleur. A SS for cassettes up to 28T and a GS for cassettes up to 32T. The 32T GS rear derailleur in combination with a compact front cranksetup offer a full wide gearing setup.
Both rear derailleur's are featured with multi shifting. With a single press and hold of the shift button the rear derailleur goes all the way up or down the cassette. Or, when programmed at the E-tube platform, two or three gear shifts.
Also the speed of gear shifts can be adjusted. In five steps, from very slow to very fast.

Groupsets is the name given to a complete gear and braking system, ready to be fitted to your new bike. By buying the whole lot in one convenient purchase you can both save money, as well as ensure that each component will be compatible with the rest. The main players in cycling groupsets are Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo.

Shimano are a Japanese manufacturer primarily known for their cycling components, and to a lesser extent shoes and clothing. Founded in 1921, Shimano is widely believed to be the largest cycling component manufacturer in the world, having reached this status through a combination of innovation, reliability and value for money. Whatever your style of riding, whether it be road or MTB, Shimano will have a component range to suit your level and budget, from the low end Alivio and Tiagra to the professional standard XTR and Dura-Ace. Over the years, Shimano have revolutionised bicycle gear, brake and pedal systems, such as the recessed SPD, Hollowtech crank arms and smooth shifting Hyperglide sprockets. Initially their component range faced competition from Suntour, whereas nowadays their primary rivals for market share are SRAM and Campagnolo. If you wish to save money on their components and apparel, please visit my Shimano section, where I list as many money saving deals as I can find.
