2018 Merlin X2.0 Cyclocross Bike
The Merlin X2.0 Tiagra Cyclocross bike is a lightweight, efficient all-terrain blaster that's ready to race at your local cyclocross race league or help you explore further afield, taking your riding to more remote tracks and trails and allowing you to link together fast riding road sections. This is one of the most versatile bikes that Merlin have ever made. We've combined a tough but lightweight aluminium frame with a carbon fork that adds a little more comfort while providing enhanced steering precision and specced the X2.0 with some great components including Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes to ensure there's plenty of braking power when you need it with a 160mm disc rotor up front and a 140mm on the rear. With disc brakes at the hubs there's more mud clearance between the frame and the tyres than on a traditional cantilever brake cyclocross bike meaning it's less likely to clog up with mud during racing or general riding. Designed in Britain, built in Belgium the X2.0 Tiagra Cyclocross bike is ready for whatever you can throw at it - gravel, grass, mud, tarmac, grim weather, even the daily commute to and from work. About Merlin Cycles
This cycling deal was found at Merlin Cycles, one of the UK's most famous bike shops, located up North!
Merlin Cycles started life in 1993, founded by John Moss as a mail order Mountain Bike business ran directly from his spare bedroom in Chorley. Due to early growth, shortly afterwards he opened his first outlet in Ormskirk, and a few years later in 1998, the company grew into larger premises, moving to Leyland.
In the 1990's and early 2000's, Merlin were known for their ranges of mountain bike hardtails, released under the Rock Lobster and Merlin "Malt" brands. These steel and aluminium hardtails were designed in house, available as framesets or complete bikes, representing excellent value for money. The company was also well known for their handbuilt MTB wheels, which in my experience lasted for years without needing truing!
Merlin have always been competitive on pricing, particularly on suspension forks, brakes, wheels and groupsets, which continues to this day. Nowadays they have introduced road cycling equipment and clothing into their product ranges, due to the increase in popularity in this field, thus catering for a broader range of cyclists.
