About Castelli Cycling Clothing
Castelli has a rich history as one of the iconic cycling brands, primarily specialising in high end road clothing. Founded by Vittore Gianni in 1876, initially as a tailor shop in Milan, it diversified to include cycling clothing in 1910, for riders such as Alfredo Binda. In 1935 Armando Castelli joined the company, purchasing it 4 years later. Shortly afterwards it began supplying riders such as Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi. By 1975, it was rebranded to Castelli, featuring the iconic scorpion logo, and shortly afterwards produced many revolutionary clothing products, such as the first lycra cycling shorts, windproof jerseys and thermal cycling clothing. To this day, the brand is synonymous with performance cycle wear, and together with Santini, they supply some of the greatest ex and current cyclists on the planet. This deal was originally found at Evans Cycles website, a bike shop which can trace it's roots back nearly 100 years! Evans Cycles is a London based chain of cycle shops, complete with an extensive online shop. Founded in 1921 by Frederick Evans in Kennington Road, SE London, the business traded for 30 years before being acquired by Joseph Smith in the 1950s, selling a range of cycles and toys. By the 1970s, focus was diverted solely to bicycles and cycling related equipment, and in the following years several franchised shops were opened. These were later brought back under the control of the main Evans company in the 1990s, at which point the famous Evans mail order catalogue was launched, complete with the traditional green and yellow colour scheme. With the growth of the internet, a website was launched in 1999 to help increase sales further, the latest incarnation of which can be found at www.evanscycles.com.
Since the early 2000s' the company has been steadily expanding, regularly opening new stores each year. By 2012, Evans employs 1100 members of staff, and currently has over 50 stores in the UK, making it one of the biggest cycle retailers in the country. In addition to selling a wide range of popular brands, Evans has also produced product ranges under "Pinnacle" and also currently has an exclusive deal with the "Hoy" brand.
