Campagnolo EPS Athena 11 Speed Short Cage Road Rear Mech

black, 11 speed - EPS Athena Short Cage Rear Mech: Aluminium, carbon fibre, high technology and design. The EPS 11 speed rear derailleur is the product of exactly the same project which spawned the Campagnolo's range topping EPS groupsets. And it has inherited the same class-beating performance. The EPS rear derailleur is comprised mainly of a mechanical structure, derived from the mechanical gear and composed of a derailleur rod/parallelogram/derailleur cage, of a worm screw enabled by an electronic actuator. As with the derailleur, the electronic rear derailleur actuator is composed of a gear motor and a sensor, the built-in resolver, that reads its movements. As with the mechanical parts, the rear derailleur represents the pride and joy of the EPS project and encompasses a series of technologies and innovations that allow shifting speed to be optimised and guarantee unprecedented precision, even in the case of multiple shifting with 11 sprockets at a time. The geometry of the parallelogram has been made more rigid and optimised to promote interaction with the electronic parts. The lower and upper bodies, the parallelogram and the carbon derailleur cage are moved by a screw system and lead worm screw (not a spring screw) which, in turn, is enabled by the electronic actuator that communicates with the DTI. The built-in resolver inside the actuator is capable of reading the movements of the rear derailleur at any time and optimising its position by communicating with the DTI (Digital Tech Intelligence). The rear derailleur is also equipped with a play recovery system using a helicoidal spring that optimises stability and precision and keeps operation and performance constant over time, even after many kms have been covered. As with the mechanical rear derailleur, it is possible to optimise its position with respect to the frame and chain by acting on two adjusting screws: the screw that adjusts the mechanical end stop and the screw that adjusts the distance between the upper pulley and sprockets. By using these screws it is possible to optimise the installation of the rear derailleur and increase the precision of its operation. Campagnolo EPS Athena 11 Speed Rear Mech Technologies: DTI - DIGITAL TECH INTELLIGENCE: DTI, Digital Tech Intelligence is housed inside the Power Unit and it continuously monitors the signals that arrive from all the EPS components, thus managing their operation. MULTI-SHIFTING: Thanks to the electronic evolution of the Multi-shifting technology which is already used in the mechanical units, it is possible to obtain multi shifting with 11 gear-cogs. Thanks to the use of a sophisticated electronic system, by keeping levers 2 or 3 pressed down it is possible to continuously change gear upward or downward, by up to 11 sprockets with a single action of the levers. There are no longer any limits to Multi-shifting and the choice is at the fingertips of the cyclist. RIDE BACK HOME FUNCTION:The uncoupling mechanism of the rear derailleur is useful if the battery runs out «on the road». If this happens, there is a procedure called RIDE BACK HOME that allows you to manually «uncouple» the rear derailleur to position it on the required sprocket. Once you are «back home» remember to couple the rear derailleur back on and charge the battery. WATER PROOF - IP67 COMPLIANT:The Campagnolo EPS electronic drivetrain complies with IP67 international standards. This means that the system is able to protect its electronic components from dust and liquid infiltration. In order to achieve the IP67 classification, all the electronic components of the EPS system underwent a series of tests, which proved their ability to function perfectly under one meter of water for at least 30 minutes. . Manufactured by Campagnolo.

Campagnolo Rear Mechs

The Italian bike component manufacturer Campagnolo is best known for it's range of groupsets and drivetrain related products. Founded in 1933 by road cyclist Tullio Campagnolo, based upon ideas he had for amongst others, wheels and derailleurs. In 1940 their first rear derailleur entered production, enabling the rider to change gears without removing their rear wheel. Although primarily a cycling company, Campag (as they are often abbreviated to) have also manufactured products for the sports auto industry for brands such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati. Achievements in the cycling world include helping Eddy Merckx set the world hour record in 1972. As the years progressed, the number of gears increased, with 8 Speed (1991), 9 Speed (in 1997), 10 speed (in 2000) and now 11 speed in 2008. Notable riders to have won the Tour de France on Campag equipment include Eddy Merckx (5 times), Bernard Hinault (5 times), Greg LeMond (twice) and Miguel Indurain (5 times). In recent times Riis, Ullrich, Pantani, Pereiro and Nibali have won riding with Campagnolo.

As per several other leading bike shops, Chain Reaction produce their own product ranges, under brands such as Brand X. To this day CRC sponsor many cycling events, and due to the company's size and efficiency are able to offer very competitive pricing on cycle equipment. In 2016 Wiggle acquired Chain Reaction Cycles, although the two websites continue to operate independently of each other, both with their own distinctive branding and product ranges.
